WHY IT MATTERS

Care that extends the life of your shoes

Premium European footwear is crafted from natural leathers and suedes that respond beautifully to thoughtful care — and age gracefully when looked after properly. A few minutes after each wear, paired with a simple monthly routine, is all it takes to preserve suppleness, colour depth and structure. This guide distils what we recommend for every pair in the Welora collection.

Your essential toolkit

Horsehair Brush

Lifts dust without scratching the leather grain

Leather Conditioner

Replenishes natural oils to prevent drying and cracking

Cedar Shoe Trees

Absorbs moisture and maintains shape between wears

Protector Spray

Guards against rain, salt and everyday stains

SMOOTH LEATHER

Clean, condition, protect

1. Remove laces and brush away surface dust with a soft horsehair brush. 2. Wipe gently with a slightly damp cloth — never soak the leather. 3. Apply a thin layer of pH-neutral leather conditioner in circular motions. Less is more; allow it to absorb fully. 4. Buff with a clean cloth. Use colour-matched polish every 3–6 weeks for dress styles. 5. Finish with a water-repellent spray in wet seasons. Re-apply every 4–8 weeks.

SUEDE & NUBUCK

Brush, never cream

Suede requires a completely different approach. Never use oils, waxes or cream conditioners — they will permanently stain the nap. 1. Use a suede brush or crepe rubber to lift dirt and restore the nap. 2. Treat stubborn marks with a dedicated suede eraser, brushing lightly in one direction. 3. Apply a suede-specific protector spray and allow to dry naturally. 4. For deep stains or water damage, consult a professional shoe care specialist.

PROPER STORAGE

Store them with intention

Always store footwear in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and radiators. Heat dries leather rapidly and can cause cracking and colour fading. Use dust bags for long-term storage and keep pairs in their original shape with cedar shoe trees. Never stack shoes on top of one another — weight and pressure will deform the uppers over time. Rotate your collection: wearing the same pair day after day accelerates wear. Two or three pairs in rotation will each last significantly longer than one worn daily.

AFTER EACH WEAR

The five-minute ritual

Getting into a short end-of-day routine is the single most effective habit for preserving premium footwear. 1. Rest — Insert cedar shoe trees immediately. Allow at least 24 hours between wears so leather can dry fully. 2. Brush — Remove dust and light dirt with a horsehair brush, paying attention to welts and seams. 3. Wipe — Dampen a soft cloth slightly and pass over the upper. Never use direct heat to speed drying. 4. Condition — Once a month, apply a thin layer of conditioner. Buff to restore natural lustre.

Common mistakes to avoid

Never use direct heat

Hair dryers and radiators crack leather irreversibly

No household cleaners

Alcohol and detergents strip natural oils from the hide

Don't wear wet shoes

Leather needs time to dry naturally with shoe trees inside

Avoid prolonged sun

UV fades colour and dries suede nap permanently

QUICK REFERENCE

Your care schedule

After every wear — Insert shoe trees, brush off dust, allow to rest 24 hours. Weekly — Wipe uppers with a damp cloth; check soles and heels for early wear. Monthly — Apply leather conditioner (smooth leather only); buff to finish. Every 3–6 weeks — Polish dress shoes; re-apply protector spray in wet weather. Seasonally — Deep clean welts and soles; consider professional resoling before damage spreads.

Well-cared-for shoes do not simply last longer — they develop a character and patina that only time and attention can create.
